To: All members of the U.S. Congress:
There are several principles I believe you must follow in the midst of this immigration debate. I ask that you read these and ensure that any bill that you vote in favor of follows these principles. I want immigration reform, but I believe that it is crucial to our nation's security that border security be addressed first. I further believe that this is a reasonable proposal that could have bipartisan support.
Americans are ready for real immigration reform. We understand that true immigration reform would:
1.) Secure the border first
2.) Represent Americans, not empower unelected and unaccountable bureaucrats
3.) Be fair and Constitutional
4.) Be understandable
5.) Strengthen the economy
6.) Promote American values
Senate amnesty bill fails on each of those six points. Our country’s existing border security laws aren’t being enforced as it is; Congress must focus our efforts there first. We stand up in support of securing the border before any "legalization" measures for illegal immigrants, provisional or permanent, are even considered.
